The Off-White Horse re-opened auditions

Due to unforseen circumstances one of our cast has had to bow out of our upcoming show, The Off-White Horse, due to be performed 25th – 28th November 2015. Therefore we are re-opening auditions for the role of Olivia (see below for character descriptions).

Auditions will be held 6pm-9pm, Thursday 8th October at The Nova Scotia in Hotwells.

The auditions themselves will be approximately 15 minutes long and primarily based on reading exerpts of the script, which will be available when you arrive. You do not need to prepare anything beforehand.

If you wish to book an audition spot please email chair@bristolcads.org.uk and we will try to accomodate your preferences, alternatively you can turn up on the night and you will be given the next available slot.

As always with CADS productions all are welcome to audition, members and non-members alike. Please arrive in plenty of time for your audition.

Show Description

Between a mother who had an affair three years ago, a youngest daughter who hates her father and a heavily autistic oldest daughter life in the Liddell family isn’t easy. Enter Olivia, a vindictive and manipulative aunt, and latent tensions within the family bubble over and erupt with violent consequences.

The Off-White Horse explores themes of family ties, loyalty, sacrifice and the importance of getting by one way or another however bleak life might be. On its first performance it was shortlisted for the International Student Drama Festival 2012, with three of the actresses and the Director invited to be part of the festival’s ensemble. The play was also the first performed at the Nottingham New Theatre entirely without a budget, and raised over £500 for the Nottingham Regional Society for Adults and Children with Autism.

Character Descriptions

Alison – The oldest daughter of the Liddell family Alison suffers heavily from Autism. She depends heavily upon her father and sticks to an incredibly strict and unwavering daily routine. A hugely demanding character part that would be a great challenge for any actress.

Erin – The youngest daughter of the Liddell family. Erin is strong-willed, independent and looking forward to moving on to University and away from her father and sister from who she is estranged.

Harriet – The working mother of the Liddell family. Often struggles to connect with Alison in the way that David manages. Tries hard to keep the family as a cohesive unit, though is often strained, and had an affair some years before the action of the play. Doesn’t get on with her sister Olivia.

Olivia – Malicious and vindictive, Olivia comes to the house of her estranged sister with nowhere else to go after her husband has kicked her out. Immediately begins to undermine the family relationship for little more than spite, though seems to have been poorly treated as a child and in secret need of validation and acceptance.

David – Browbeaten and pessimistic David left his job to look after Alison full-time, and often seems to resent that he wasn’t given a choice. Immensely dedicated to his youngest daughter to the point that he has alienated Erin.

All parts are roughly equal in size. These characters are a variety of ages, however you will not need to be within a particular age bracket to audition for a particular part – the auditions will focus on ability, not age.
